“Carelle, have you come to join me?” the question was asked softly, from behind her left shoulder. Sudden tears threatened, she swung round slowly, “Fernum…” voice trailing off she saw the look of hope die in his eyes, “I have been offered a mission…” a shoulder shrugged, then hard and fast she shot her question at him “Was it worth it? This little world with its little sun and it’s few planets, we’ve already ruled whole systems, why did you want it?”
Fernum started to slowly walk backwards, away from her, arms spreading wide he indicated the whole panorama beneath the veil, sun in the centre, planets whirling around it, moons around them, stray comets, asteroids… “It was never about this world, it was, is, always about Him, Them.”
